Having earned herself quite a reputation for her emotive and passionate live performances, it was perhaps only natural that singer-songwriter Claire Tonna would go on to record an album of her deeply engaging and, quite often, personal songs.

What started out as an acoustic project eventually evolved into The Port, a musical journey shaped and inspired by human and spiritual emotions that Tonna herself has experienced in her adventures through life.

Using The Port as a metaphor for the womb and, on a separate level, the ‘port’ within us through which moments of sorrow and joy, weaknesses and strengths flow in and out of our being, Tonna captures the essence of life and love, with both outward and intimate emotions manifesting themselves in her songs.

Incredibly the album, recorded with (and produced by) long-standing collaborator Mario Sammut (Cygna), successfully projects the same intimacy Tonna conjures during her live performances; the connection is a vital element for the songs to truly leave their mark on the listener.

Tonna will launch The Port locally this afternoon at 3pm with one last live performance at Il-Veċċja Wine Bar in Xemxija, prior to heading for New Zealand, where she will also be launching the album and following it up with a tour of Australia, New Zealand and possibly Polynesia early next year.
