Maltese musician Claire Baluci was recently featured prominently in Okey Magazin, a top German publication dedicated solely to music.

A Baluci concert does not only consist of organ music of the finest; it is also a fully-fledged production with light effects, dancers, singers and music to suit all tastes and ages

A full interview was carried with Baluci in the November/December issue of the magazine.

The German critics give a respectful nod to Malta’s reputation for being a top sun and sea, and cultural heritage, destination. However, they add that the music scene is just as strong, with one of the world’s most respected musicians also being one of Malta’s foremost organists. Baluci is both a fully-qualified church organist and a modern digital theatre organist.

The German critics’ words echo those of other international critics and music connoisseurs. Recently, Planet Keys and Jurjens also listed Baluci as one of the world’s top organists, together with other big names such as Hector Olivera, Yuri Tachibana, Robert Bartha and Mark Shakespeare. This comes as no surprise, given Baluci’s musical triumphs, which include winning the International Organ Championships, held in Germany, twice.

In the article on Okey Magazin, music critic Martin Lutz writes that Baluci is well-known for her virtuosity and versatility and has participated in concerts worldwide:

“A Baluci concert does not only consist of organ music of the finest; it is also a fully-fledged production with light effects, dancers, singers and music to suit all tastes and ages.”

The author also praises Baluci for her “double” career and the fact that besides being a professional musician she is also a highly recognised scientist, thanks to her professional qualifications at doctoral level and her involvement in this field on an international level.

Speaking further about her musical career, the journalist makes it obvious that the Germans appreciate that Baluci performs exclusively on a German digital theatre organ which has been custom-built for her by the renowned music company Böhm. The sophistication of this instrument and the way Baluci plays and manipulates it manifest the musician’s virtuosity in her live performances.

During the interview, Baluci speaks about her love and respect for the performing arts and the music scene in Malta.

The interview also covers the launch of Baluci’s forthcoming CD in Germany.
