Valletta ended leaders Luxol’s unbeaten run after beating them 6-4 to bridge the gap at the top of the table to just two points at the end of the regular season.

This clash was a thrilling affair which saw the Citizens clinching a morale-boosting victory ahead of the start of the Elite round.

Luxol enjoyed the perfect start when they surged into a two-goal lead. But the Citizens hit back strongly keeping the crowd present glued to their seats until the end.

Carl Azzopardi and Dejan Bizjak put Luxol ahead but soon it was back to level terms following goals by Raphinha and Xavier Saliba for Valletta.

In the second half, the Citizens scored four goals without reply through Jovica Milijic (2), Raphinha and Dylan Musu to open a cushion 6-2 lead.

But drama was not over yet as Giancarlo Sammut and Frane Despotovic scored for Luxol to set up a tense finale as the Citizens defended their two-goal lead.

However, despite playing with the flying keeper, Luxol couldn’t find a way through again, going on to concede their first defeat in 14 matches.

Attention this week shifted to the Gatorade KO as Marsascala reach the semi-finals after ousting Safi San Lorenzo 5-3.

Reuben Degabriele scored twice and the other scorers for the seasiders were Johann Callus, Justin Mifsud and Franklin Abela.

Two other teams will be vying for another KO semi-final slot this evening at Corradino  as Ħamrun play Msida in a cup tie.
