Valletta were last week crowned FXDD First Division champions after brushing aside Msida St Joseph 9-1 to seal top spot in the section.

The Citizens deserved their high placing in the final standings. Spurred on by the work of coach Xavier Saliba, they never looked back after steadying the ship following a rather shaky start that saw them lose five of their opening seven games.

Valletta staged a bold reaction, producing a great run of 16 matches without defeat to secure promotion in style.

Msida tried to limit the damage against the marauding Citizens who kept Saints goalkeeper Keith Cassar Jackson busy throughout the match.

After Valletta took the lead in the opening minutes, the match seemed already won and lost as Msida found it very difficult to weather the storm.

Dylan Agius put Valletta ahead and Aaron Agius made no mistake from a favourable position as he stroked the ball past the Msida keeper.

The Citizens increased their lead as Ilija Milivojsa set up Renald Formston who tapped in to make it 3-0.

Msida reduced the arrears before half-time thanks to Chris Cutajar. He advanced past his direct marker and hit a well-placed shot that gave Gaetano Mallia no chance.

Valletta were the dominant force in the second half, scoring six more goals to make their victory more pronounced.

The goals came through Alexander Fenech, Milivojsa, Sandro Caruana, Aaron Agius, Aaron Camilleri and Paul Zammit.

The final whistle sparked spontaneous celebrations among the Valletta players, staff and fans.

At the end of the match, Futsal Malta Association official Mark Borg presented the trophy to Valletta captain Dassier Borg.

Meanwhile, second-placed Żebbuġ Rangers wrapped up their league commitments with a 5-2 victory over Naxxar Lions.
