The Prime Minister should call a meeting of the Citizenship Monitoring Committee as soon as possible, the Nationalist Party said.
The committee was set up last year but has never met, leading the Opposition to note it was a committee only in name and was not functioning.
Party leader Simon Busuttil said Prime Minister Joseph Muscat should give a detailed account of all citizenship applications submitted so far for the sake of transparency.
“A serious government keeps its word,” Dr Busuttil said, referring to the Labour Party’s pre-electoral promises to have a transparent government.
In reply, the government said a meeting will be held in due course.
“The government’s plan is still to implement a transparent programme that will attract talented people to our country and lead to unprecedented economic development,” the government said.
