The number of Church marriages registered last year amoun­­ted to 1,562 – a marginal increase over 1,520 marriages in 2011. The majority of marriages in 2012 took place between Maltese citizens and amounted to 1,351, the Curia said yesterday.

There were 74 marriages between Maltese and foreigners – of these 40 were between Maltese and foreign Catholics, 21 between Maltese Catholics and foreign Christians and 13 between Maltese Catholics to non-Christians.

Seven marriages were registered between Maltese citizens living in a foreign country and 130 marriages between foreign couples.
