The festive issue of Sagħtar is now available, with a packed edition that focuses on the joy and serenity of the season from a spiritual and a celebratory point of view.

As always, the magazine includes a section for the younger pupils, with a selection of short stories, poetry and Christmas-themed writings. The trivia corner, compiled by Charles Magro, offers some light-hearted interludes, while the Brava Brava comic strip will certainly go down well with those who enjoy a touch of humour, as will Tanja Cilia’s take on the traditional Christmas carol, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The regular games pages is also included, this time round with a definite Christmas theme.

This issue also contains a number of features for the older student. Budding artists will enjoy learning all about Antonio Sciortino’s sculptures and about Northern European artists, such as Van Eyck and Bosch; for the science geeks, there is a highly informative feature about earthquakes and what happens during this natural phenomenon and another about wind and solar-powered energy.

The writers’ spotlight this month falls on famed author Enid Blyton, while nature lovers will enjoy reading about the traditional girna.

On the religious side, a write-up about St Ġorġ Preca’s life and his contribution to the Maltese Catholic spirit is particularly appropriate for this time of year.

Sagħtar is published every month, between October and May. An annual subscription costs €8. The magazine may also be bought monthly at €1 per copy. A subscription form may be obtained from schools or by calling on 2123 7815 or 2166 6443.
