A man was yesterday granted bail after denying that he tried to short-circuit his neighbour’s Christmas decorations with the intention of causing a fire on Sunday.

Dunstan Vella, 48, from Naxxar, allegedly attempted to start a fire inside his neighbour’s apartment by grabbing wires running outside the flat, which led to the decorations inside, and trying to cause a short circuit.

The incident happened at around 10 p.m. in what is understood to be a long standing dispute with his neighbours. He also denied disobeying police orders, causing damage and threatening the neighbours.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 and deposit of €500.
