Maltapost has issued a set of three stamps featuring artworks from Albrecht Dürer’s ‘Life of the Virgin’ series.
Dürer was one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance. He was a brilliant painter, draftsman, writer and print maker, who revolutionised printmaking, elevating it to the level of an independent art form.
Dürer’s prints, titled ‘The Flight into Egypt’, ‘The Nativity of the Lord’ and ‘The Adoration of the Magi’, feature on the €0.26, €0.59 and €0.63 stamps respectively. These artworks can be found at the Cathedral Museum in Mdina along with other works of Dürer.
The stamps have been designed by Maltapost and will be issued in sheets of 10. Each stamp measures 44mm x 31mm with a perforation of 13.9 x 14.0 (comb.), bearing the Maltese cross watermark, while the sheet measures 186mm x 119mm. Printex Ltd printed 1,600,000 of the €0.26 stamp, 600,000 of the €0.59 stamp and 88,000 of the €0.63 stamp.
