On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sun Zhongshan, the first president and founding father of the Republic of China, the film 1911 Revolution is being screened in Valletta tomorrow.
Starring Jackie Chan, the story closely follows key events of the Xinhai Revolution, with focus on Huang Xing and Sun Zhongshan. It begins with the Wuchang Uprising of 1911 and follows through historical events including the Second Guangzhou Uprising, the deaths of 72 martyrs, the election of Sun Zhongshan as the provisional president of the new Provisional Republic of China, the abdication of the last Qing dynasty emperor Puyi on February 12, 1912 and the instatement of Yuan Shikai as the new provisional president in Beijing shortly after.
The film, classified as an action-adventure film in the historic and war genre, is directed by Chan himself together with Li Zhang and also stars Winston Chao and Bingbing Li.
