Children can learn to make drawings that tell a story with book illustrator and artist Marisa Attard
The three-hour-workshop will include a short tour of PalazzoFalson in Mdina, instruction and personal attention for each student who will be taught how to draw illustrations and will then create their own story and illustrate it. Refreshments will be served during the break.
Attard has been illustrating children’s books since her own three children were very young.
They are now grown up and this gives her more time to spend with other people’s children, doodling, sketching, painting and just having great fun.
The illustration workshops will combine history, humour and art (and some light refreshments). Her style of illustration and art is bold, bright and humorous.
She enjoys studying people and her quirky characters are seen to defy gravity, enjoy life, go for evening strolls, gossip or just sit placidly looking out at the viewer hopefully eliciting a smile from those who might take life too seriously.
Attard was awarded the Premju Letterarju for Best Illustrator ofChildren’s Books in 2002 and 2003, she has taken part in numerous collective and solo art exhibitions with paintings that combine her illustrative style and particular draughtmanship. Her preferred medium is acrylic and collage and pen, ink and watercolour.
The workshop is aimed at children aged between eight and 12 and will be held in the Rooftop Studio, Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum, Mdina on September 13 and 14 (participants choose one date) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost (€20) includes tuition, equipment and refreshments.
