A stand was recently set up at the Famers’ Market in Ta’ Qali to make children more familiar with Maltese fruit and vegetables and show them how to make healthy smoothies snacks from fresh local strawberries, peaches and apricots.

Interactive sessions were also held with the children, who left with a free pack of materials including a healthy recipes booklet, two comic-style stories about Fonzu il-Fenek and the lyrics for the Ħaxix u Frott song.

The event was organised as part of an educational project called Nieklu bil-Għaqal ma’ Fonzu (Healthy Eating With Fonzu), developed by Suzanne Piscopo as part of the wider European Food Framework project (www.europeanfoodframework.eu) coordinated by the British Nutrition Foundation.

Educational videos from the local project, including the Ħaxix u Frott song, are available on www.youtube.com/fonzulfenek.
