The last concert of the Malta Cultural Institute (MCI) 2011/ 2012 Season will be held today at Le Meridien St Julian’s Hotel & Spa, at 7 p.m.

The concert will include the participation of seven-year-old pianist Dmitry Ishkhanov (pictured, left), who is making a name for himself internationally with a series of acclaimed performances.

Ishkhanov will be flying straight to Malta after finishing a piano concert in Armenia. He will be playing pieces by Kuhlau, Kabalevsky, Shostakovich and Gillock.

The concert will also feature performances by pianist Chantal Mangion, with works by Chopin, Debussy and Scott. Soprano Louiselle Pace Gouder and pianist Maria Ellul will be presenting a programme of Italian art songs and German Lieder, followed by operatic excerpts by Mozart, Cilea and Puccini.

Flamenco Dancer Bettina von Brockdorff will bring the evening to an end with Con la bata y el mantòn, a twelve-count Glamenco rhythm and song from Cadiz, Spain.

The MCI concerts will be resumed in October. Entrance is free but donations towards the MCI fund, to help cover the evening’s expenses, are most welcome.
