You can see them dirtying our pavements, footpaths, streets, roads, and occasionally even pressed and crushed against the undersides of church pews – I am referring to discarded remnants of chewing gum.

They constitute a blemish on our environment, apart from the fact that chewing gum is not exactly healthy. I understand this is a controversial subject, but the thought lingers: has the time come for us to imitate Singapore and make chewing gum illegal?
