Two students reading for an MSc in Chemistry by research under the supervision of Chemistry department lecturer David Magri recently joined 131 participants from 17 countries in a week-long winter school in Bressanone, Italy.
During the scientific meeting, international renowned experts gave lectures on various topics related to supramolecular chemistry and 98 students presented a series of posters.
Kristina Farrugia’s poster was entitled Colorimetric Thiosemicarbazide Anion Sensors and Maria Cardona’s was called Water-Soluble Azobenzene-based pH Sensors.
This was the second train-ing school of the Cost Action CM1005 Supramolecular Chemistry in Water.
It was held in conjunction with the European Winter School on Physical Organic Chemistry.
Meanwhile, Dr Magri, together with Ms Cardona and Ms Farrugia will give presentations entitled Optical Sensing and Logic with Molecules on Thursday at 6.30pm at St James Cavalier’s Music Room, Valletta.
The meeting is organised by the Malta Chamber of Scientists in collaboration with the University.
The speakers will discuss their current research on molecular sensing and molecular logic-based computation and some of the potential applications in medical and environmental diagnostics. A discussion will follow the presentations.
Science professionals, educators and students are welcome. Membership of the chamber may be obtained at the door.
