Thousands of people took advantage of the fine weather yesterday to cross over to Gozo, causing a long queue at Ċirkewwa, which, at one point, tailed back to Għadira Bay. Police officers were on site controlling the traffic.

The situation was also difficult on the way back, with the queue stretching well into Ghajnsielem.

Some of those who waited for hours complained that it took Gozo Channel too long to start a shuttle service.

Many crossed to Gozo to tour the Bethlehem f'Ghajnsielem live crib, which yesterday had 10,000 visitors. There were 200 live actors in the crib, a local record.

The Gozo Ministry said 27,631 crossed between Malta and Gozo yesterday. 54,050 crossed between Friday and Sunday with the ferries making  190 trips. On Sunday alone, there were 95 trips.
