One of the leading PL slogans is “We want change”. However, it is the PN that has, over the last years, brought about and is continuously effecting successful changes, including major ones like the European Union reality with endless opportunities for all.

In hindsight, the PL accepted this reality together with others such as the introduction of participatory democracy through the local councils and the assurance of freedom of expression through broadcasting pluralism.

It was the PN’s peaceful resistance in the 1980s that promulgated the need for amendments to the Constitution to ensure the elimination of gerrymandering in elections and that the will of the majority of the people is always respected. In 1981, the majority of the people had voted for the PN but had to wait till 1987 to experience the beginning of this long-awaited transition.

With all its defects, the PN’s credibility has been put to the test six times and this party has been returned to power five of those times – in 1998 with the additional task of correcting the wrong decisions, including freezing Malta’s EU application for membership.

Furthermore, while changing the face of this country it was during a PN Administration that personalities like George Abela and Joe Mifsud of TVAM – two former leading PL politicians – were presented to the people with the possibility of sharing their wisdom and their values with all. The latest PN’s revitalising change was the overwhelming majority of councillors electing Simon Busuttil as deputy leader. Once again, the PL attempted to reproduce this change a few weeks later.

The above – together with eye-opening details brought to light in the course of the campaign – explains why the people’s choice for five out of six times since 1987 was the PN’s original version of a forward-looking, insightful and effective change for all.

Consequently, the Labour campaign – overshadowed by the very serious ice block vs drug block controversy – is being anything but convincing for those who sensibly prefer to evaluate things before making a final responsible decision and these, obviously, include the first-time voters and our younger generation.

Here, we have a fine example of a safe future direction guaranteed by past achievements, performance history and factual results.
