The GRTU has called for EU funds to tackle the traffic problem and encourage the private sector to invest in alternative means of transport.

“Traffic is a problem which is affecting all enterprises and which is heavily impinging on the country’s productivity,” said GRTU president Paul Abela.

The Malta Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises, GRTU, met Ian Borg, Parliamentary Secretary for the EU presidency 2017, ahead of the spending commitment on Malta’s €1 billion budget.

Among its other proposals to Mr Borg was the use of pre-financing as opposed to reimbursement, so that funds are made immediately accessible to those who need them most.

The GRTU requested immediate assistance for e-commerce, aid to export and the upgrading of the required standards.

The chamber also called for funds to better utilise resources in the locality, help start-ups materialise their ideas and increase production of high quality local produce, especially for the agri- tourism and crafts sector.

Dr Borg assured the organisation it would be involved in consultations with the government about the distribution of funds.
