Regular consumption of probiotics – referred to as ‘good bacteria’ – have been shown to alleviate lactose intolerance and other minor gastro-intestinal disturbances such as some types of diarrhoea.
Probiotic food is food that contains live bacteria, which is considered beneficial and not harmful to humans. One example is Bifidus (B. Lactis), found naturally in the gut of breastfed infants.
Infant cereal Cerelac, by Nestle, is a nutritious, easily digested cereal with milk and enriched with the probiotic Bifidus.
Cerelac is an excellent source of energy with complex carbohydrates and key nutrients for babies. It also provides important nutrients such as vitamins and minerals.
Such mineralsinclude calcium to build healthy bones and teeth, and iron, required to generate red blood cells.
Cerelac is made using a unique process, whereby carefully sourced cereals are hydrolysed enzymatically. This process breaks down the cereal into smaller, easily digested parts.
It also facilitates digestion since the baby’s organs are still immature.
Cerelac does not get lumpy or thicken on standing and its taste has also been improved.
The milk comes in a variety of combinations and flavours, including rice, wheat, three cereals, apple and wheat, banana and wheat, mixed fruits and mixed vegetables and rice.
