Sicilian ceramics and cribs from Sciacca, together with items of antique furniture, are being sold in aid of the boys of St Patrick’s Salesian School.
The ceramics available come from the workshop of Nino Cascio, who has exhibited his artistic works in Malta several times over the past years.
Prof. Cascio grew up in a family of ceramics craftsmen and has been practising his own skills since the 1960s.
The ceramics in Sciacca originated in medieval times as can be proved by the various fragments of pottery discovered there.
They are different from the ceramics of Caltagirone and Santo Stefano di Camastra, both in Sicily.
Today in Sciacca, there are about 40 workshops of famous ceramic artists, and whole families dedicate their lives to artistic ceramics and who offer a valid attraction to tourists and visitors.
The sale, which began yesterday at St Patrick’s Salesian School, in St John Bosco Street, Sliema, will be open till Sunday between 10am and 7pm and is organised by the Salesians of Don Bosco in Malta.
