The Mcast Centre for Agriculture, Aquatics and Animal Sciences (CAAAS) in Qormi is this weekend organising its annual open weekend.

During the event – held between Friday and Sunday – the public will have the opportunity to ask students and lecturers about subjects related to plant and animal care and about the production of food.

The event also introduces the public, especially young and adult prospective students, to the educational and career opportunities that the centre offers.

Visitors will be able to try out different gardening and farming skills, learn how to take better care of their pets, take tours of the centre’s animal husbandry units and fields, taste different dishes including Maltese food, participate in olive oil and wine-tasting sessions, learn about different herbs, buy plants and food products produced by the centre and observe various fish and exotic animals in aquaria and vivaria.

Visitors may also learn how to carry out a pet health check and join the Wildlife Trekking Tour. They may make use of the childcare area and the food stalls that will be set up for the occasion (including a Sunday lunch majjalata).

The event will also include displays related to beekeeping, rabbit and poultry keeping, floriculture and veterinary services.

Mcast career advisers will be available to meet prospective students and provide information about Mcast’s full-time and part-time courses in agribusiness and other related sectors.

Opening times are on Friday, between 10am and 2pm; on Saturday, between 10am and 6pm; and on Sunday between 9am and 6pm.

For more information visit the Mcast Facebook Page. More details may be obtained by phone on 2125 7006 or CAAAS@mcast.edu.mt.
