A thanksgiving Mass was recently celebrated at the Ċentru Tagħlim Nisrani Giovanna D’Ala in St Dominic Street, Valletta, to mark the 100th anniversary of the centre where generations of children from Valletta attended catechism lessons.

The Mass, which was attended by around 150 children and their parents, was celebrated by Archbishop Emeritus Jos-eph Mercieca, assisted by St Dominic parish priest Fr Tonio Mallia Milanes, OP.

After Mass, Mgr Mercieca blessed a commemorative plaque, and bookmarks reproducing a painting of the Holy Family by Calì on the main altar of the centre were distributed to all those present.

Two children who attend the centre, Jeremy Dimech and Samira Muscat, read an address for the occasion, while Fr Mallia Milanes thanked Mgr Mercieca, catechists, children, parents and benefactors for their participation.

The centre was inaugurated by Fr Luigi Gatt, OP, in 1912.
