Three persons have been arrested in connection with the recent theft of ornaments from tombstones at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery in Marsa, the police said yesterday.

The ornaments stolen were made of copper and the theory is that these thefts were carried out after the price of copper shot up on the international market.

Two of the persons are suspected to have carried out the thefts while the third is believed to have handled the stolen goods.

A number of ornaments have been found by the police.

Investigations are ongoing and it is possible that a number of people will be arraigned over these thefts in the coming days, the police added.
