Without taking anything away from Celtic who sealed a third consecutive title last season, the 2013-14 Premiership in Scotland was a one-club race with the other teams failing to last the distance.

The neutral fans continue to wait for Rangers to resume their duels with their eternal rivals in the top flight as interest in the Scottish game could suffer a dip.

Rangers will play in the Championship next season after dropping down the divisions following their financial collapse a few years back.

Critics described the event as the biggest happening in recent sporting history.

Rangers owed the taxman £50 million. The decline of such a footballing giant came after decades of mismanagement.

Celtic’s domination in the Premier League persisted as they secured their seventh champion-ship in the last 11 years.

However, there was something to write about in the Scottish Cup last season as St Johnstone defeated Dundee United to win the honour for the first time in their history. Aberdeen won the League Cup.

A shock for the Celtic fans was the resignation of popular manager Neil Lennon earlier this month.

Ronny Deila, 38, took over on a 12-month rolling contract. Last season, the Norwegian guided Stromdsgodset to the champion-ship at home.

In 2014-15, Celtic will play in the second qualifying round of the Champions League while St Johnstone will participate in the Europa League.

Motherwell (league runners-up) and Aberdeen (third in the league) will also play in the early stages of the Europa League.
