Celtic moved to within a point of Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premier League with a 4-1 home win over Dundee United yesterday.

The Hoops laid siege to the United goal in a frenzied start and got the goal their pressure deserved when Gary Hooper poked home in the 23rd minute after a mistake from Garry Kenneth.

Israeli international Beram Kayal scored only his second goal for the club with a sensational strike in the 54th minute before United struck the post through substitute Johnny Russell.

Kris Commons made it 3-0 in the 85th minute before Russell pulled one back for United in the first minute of stoppage time but sub Daryl Murphy restored their three-goal advantage with the last kick of the game.

Celtic could now move top with a win in their game in hand against Inverness on Wednesday.

Celtic coach Neil Lennon hailed his side’s performance. “We were brilliant from start to finish. When the second goal came we never looked back,” Lennon said.
