Celtic could win the Scottish Premiership before they face title challengers Aberdeen. The pair will meet on May 8 in the third round of fixtures after the league splits. Celtic are eight points ahead and Aberdeen cannot afford to slip further behind before they meet at Parkhead.

The fixtures, which were announced yesterday, reveal Celtic finish their season at home to Motherwell while Aberdeen host Ross County.

The Dons have a chance to put pressure back on when they play St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Friday, April 22, before Celtic host Ross County two days later.

Each team will end the season having played 19 home games – a uniformity which is rarely possible because of the difficulties in predicting who will finish in the top six.

Bottom club Dundee United finish the season at second-bottom Kilmarnock, but they will have to make inroads on their eight-point deficit before then to make the game meaningful.

Indeed, Dundee United could even be relegated against city rivals Dundee in a Monday night game at Dens Park on May 2, if results go against them beforehand.
