I have been separated for over four years yet I do not wish at this point in time to remarry. However, there are some people who do wish this second chance.

I feel this referendum is treating me like some criminal. Or worse, because those who steal or kill are given a second chance to regain their life in society. However, it seems that we separated persons are being viewed as second-class citizens who have no rights at all.

We boast about democracy and about democratic rights, at a time when Arab citizens are losing their lives for them. Where does democracy stand here in Malta when it comes to freedom of choice? This week I feel that we the condemned, separated people will be standing before a jury of our fellow countrymen and women. I am not a criminal. Give me the freedom to choose for myself whether I remarry or not. Give us democracy, not dictatorship.

Thou shall not judge until thou has been judged, said the Lord... He took Magdalene and gave her a second chance. So why not give us separated persons a second chance too instead of judging us?
