The Oracle Casino in Buġibba has reopened following a €500,000 refurbishment by Tumas Gaming.

Investment Minister Chris Cardona and Competitiveness Parliamentary Secretary José Herrera, present for the official opening, both reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguard the country’s interest in sports betting.

“This industry gives a significant contribution to the economy and our intention is to strengthen our country’s position and continue resisting decisions – even on a European level – that could threaten local operators or the economy,” Dr Cardona said.

He pointed out the government agreed with the plans made in the European Council Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions but disagreed with the proposed definition of betting.

“The definition could prejudice the country’s position and the government’s stand is to sustain the industry while facilitating responsible growth,” Dr Herrera said.
