Several fundraisers and charity events were held across Malta yesterday as Christmas spirit reaches fever pitch.
A Christmas tree made up of 13 layers of cake was the star attraction at a fundraising yuletide market in Marsa.
The cake tree, baked and constructed by Ħamrun confectioner Joseph Markett, stood 3.39 metres high and was entered into the Malta Records as the tallest cake on the island.
The 6 ta’ Awissu Garden in Marsa was transformed into a winter wonderland with performers, animators and a 40-stall Christmas market.
The event was planned by the Holy Trinity Feast Organising Society and raised funds for Id-Dar tal-Providenza.
Żabbar had its own share of activities, this time to raise awareness about poverty among families living in the south.
Hundreds of people, young and old, donned red Christmas caps to participate in the music video Milied ta’ Tama organised by television programme Xarabank.
A rock Mass was held at the sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces in the locality as local bands Winter Moods and Salt cranked up the volume and rocked along to a sermon in a departure from the town’s conventional evening celebration.
Hundreds of children filled the Infetti football ground in Birkirkara for another charity event in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.
Organised by Eurosport outlet, the event saw children of all ages participate in non-competitive football, fun and games.
Last year, the event raised more than €5,000 for L-Istrina.
