The Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin is insisting that talks on hospital carers’ salaries start immediately.

It welcomed comments by the Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly, Justyne Caruana, who said on television that the salary system of carers was discriminatory.

Earlier this year, the UĦM had made a number of suggestions so that carers in government hospitals and in elderly homes would have one single structure and be able to train and further their career.

At the moment, there are six types of workers, carrying out the same tasks in wards but receiving a different pay.
