Care Malta has joined forces with National Care Forum UK, Aged and Community Services Australia and the South African Care Forum to celebrate National Care Home Open Day.

All homes run by Care Malta put up myriad activities, making the day a truly special one and leaving both residents and visitors with a sweet aftertaste.

Distinct personalities visited the homes, including Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of People with Disability and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana.

Dr Caruana met the residents and witnessed their talents in crafts they themselves created. She was happy to see that the home promoted these active-ageing activities, which are in line with what the government is promoting.

All homes showcased their residents’ talents through items made out of wool, ganutell, paper, wood and cork. Some of the residents had their hands full throughout the morning doing crafts like flower arrangements, jewellery and clay while others embarked on preparing sweets, which were then served to the visitors.

Residents played an active part throughout the day in the running of operations, by welcoming visitors at the door, preparing tea and coffee and manning the front office together with the staff in charge.

Residents played board games, the piano and Wii games, while others enjoyed pet therapy and hand massages.

Care Malta CEO Natalie Briffa Farrugia said the main aim behind the National Care Home Open Day was to make people realise that care homes can be inspiring places, full of unique and charming characters, run by special people that care.
