The former St Luke’s Hospital car park, left neglected since the hospital closed in 2008, will be given a new lease of life following a devolution agreement signed between the government and Pietà local council.

However, it will come at a cost as motorists will no longer be able to use the car park – which can take up to 260 vehicles – free of charge.

The three-year devolution agreement was announced yesterday morning during a visit by Parliamentary Secretary for Planning Michael Falzon. Fifty parking spaces will be reserved for residents at no cost. The fees for the rest will be announced once the contract for management and upkeep is awarded.
