A hawker who defrauded a car importer of €873,491 and was jailed for five years was yesterday conditionally discharged for three years for stealing razor blades from a supermarket.

Glen Debattista, 54, of Sliema, admitted before Magistrate Carol Peralta to stealing the items from Spotless Supermarket, in Balzan, in September 2010 and to relapsing.

This September, Mr Debattista was jailed after purchasing 64 vehicles under false pretences. He had signed 62 contracts for 55 Toyotas from Michael Debono Ltd and nine Perodua vans from Rohan Motors Limited. Ten of the vehicles had been returned.

Mr Debattista was last year jailed for three years after he admitted to stealing about €330,000 worth of antique jewellery and diamonds from a shop in Valletta.
