San Ġiljan maintained their clean sheet in terms of victories when they defeated Sirens 8-4, yesterday.
Despite the relatively close scoreline the match resulted in a cantering victory for winter league title-holders San Ġiljan.
Their success ahead of the play-off against Sliema for the pre-season honour on April 30 was very much on the cards even if the Saints had their heavyweight Matthew Zammit missing.
They took their fighting opponents by storm to build a 6-1 lead by the end of the second session courtesy of two goals each from the hard-working young tandem of Ben Plumpton and Andreas Galea, the latter completing a hat-trick in the third part of the game.
The Saints’ swimming and accurate finishing overpowered the northerners in those initial quarters after which the St Julian’s team eased through, with their coach Marko Orlovic making ample use of the youngsters at his disposal, including the promising Tristan Said.
