St Michael Junior School held a candlelight vigil in solidarity with children in war-torn countries. The school has opened its doors to a number of refugee children, including  Hamada Al Rosan, a 10-year-old Syrian boy, survivor of the boat which had capsized off Lampedusa in October 2013. Hamada became a valued member of the school community until his departure to Germany in 2014. The vigil was attended by parents and children from different denominations and religions and was an example of how humanity should unite in a show of solidarity with those bearing the brunt of war. The congregation observed a minute’s silence and said a prayer, a poignant moment of reflection under the flickering candlelight.
