This week sees the first Malta gig by The Diagonikals, a rather mysterious Canadaian duo who will be bringing their own particular brand of sound, which they ironically describe as ‘Eurothrash’ and ‘new wave’.

The duo, made up of Primrose Pill and Sujet la Mordue, take their privacy very seriously. A look at their website yields nothing about their actual identity. It does, however, link to their Soundcloud page, which is generously populated with their tracks.

Their music could perhaps be described as avant-garde electro, with a bit of rock and punk thrown in for good measure. Their tracks, however, are best experienced in person and defy pigeonholing into a particular niche.

With music that has been described as “delicate, but at the same time threatening... post-punk with a pop flavour... Kraftwerk meets Sex Pistols”, The Diagonikals are expected to play material from the debut album, Origasmi and the latest material, Oral Sphincter. They will be supported by Dario Genovese.

The Diagonikals will play on Friday at Coach & Horses, Birkirkara.
