My Fair Lady, one of the world’s most famous musicals, will be staged by FM Theatre Productions this weekend at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.

The show tells the story of Eliza Doolittle (played by Maxine Aquilina), a rough Cockney girl who meets Colonel Pickering (Edward Mercieca) and Henry Higgins (Antony Edridge) in Covent Garden where she is selling flowers.

When Higgins remarks that he could help Eliza speak properly and raise her status in the community, Pickering challenges him to do so, and Eliza takes him up on the offer. Though difficult and frustrating for both Eliza and Higgins at first, the lessons soon begin to work wonders, and produce results that neither predict. But, can he really transform her into a ‘duchess’ as he professes?

The cast also features Thomas Camilleri as Freddy Eynsford-Hill and Alan Paris as Alfie Doolittle.

My Fair Lady features much-loved numbers including Just You Wait, I Could Have Danced All Night, and Get Me To The Church on Time. The production is directed by Denise Mulholland and with Kris Spiteri as musical director, Emma Loftus as choreographer and Cathy Lawlor as vocal coach.

The musical is being presented as part of FM Theatre Productions’ 20th anniversary celebrations.

My Fair Lady will be performed in English and is suitable for family viewing. It will be staged at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8pm, with a matinee performance on Sunday at 3pm. For tickets, visit www.mcc.com.mt or call 7944 5030.
