QPR striker DJ Campbell will be sidelined for up to eight weeks after suffering a suspected broken metatarsal in training.

Campbell was due to start yester-day’s Premier League clash against Blackburn but boss Neil Warnock revealed the former Blackpool star had to miss the 1-1 draw as a result of the injury he picked up on Thursday.

Warnock admits Campbell could be on the sidelines for up to two months if the broken bone requires pinning and he blamed the injury on the lack of protection offered by modern lightweight football boots.

“He had an accident on Thursday in the last kick of the training game,” Warnock said yesterday. “It looks as though he has got a metatarsal problem so he could be out for a few weeks.

“I think it will probably be longer than four weeks and he might have to have an operation. We’ll know Monday.”
