Shaun Wright-Phillips and John Guidetti scored second-half goals as Manchester City rallied to beat Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 in a friendly at the Empire Fiel stadium late Monday.
Camilo Sanvezzo, the former Qormi FC striker, gave Vancouver the lead on the half hour when he saw his shot deflected past City goalkeeper Joe Hart off Stefan Savic and into the net.
In season 2009-10, Camilo was the Maltese Premier League’s top scorer with 24 goals. He left Qormi after leading the club to their first FA Trophy final which they lost to Valletta 2-1.
Against Man. City he had another goalbound shot saved by Hart before curling a free-kick into the side-netting which the England keeper appeared to have given up as a goal.
Guidetti eventually restored parity with a far-post header midway though the second half, although by then Mario Balotelli was committing some niggly and unnecessary fouls, and it was left to Wright-Phillips to score the winner late on.
Wright-Phillips blasted a shot from 30 metres out that beat Whitecaps goalkeeper Jay Nolly hands down in front of a crowd of 24,074 fans.
However, there was a major cause of concern for City boss Roberto Mancini as Yaya Toure limped out with an injury.
Man. City continue their US tour with another match against LA Galaxy on Sunday.
