Saturday’s derby between Carisa Savona and RN Bogliasco, two teams from Genova in Italy’s top league, had an unhappy ending for Steve Camilleri when he was involved in a heated argument with Savona’s Giovanni Bianco and suffered facial injuries.

It was reported that when the match ended the two players confronted each other while they were heading towards the changing rooms. Camilleri came out the worst and was immediately taken to hospital suffering from a broken nose.

Camilleri, Bogliasco’s leading scorer, struck twice in the last session to bring his total to 50 goals but his team were soundly beaten 19-8.

Meanwhile, Malta coach Karl Izzo was forced to leave Camilleri out of his final squad for the national team’s participation in the EU Nations Cup which will be played in Limerick, Ireland, this week.
