Malta’s top waterpolo player, Steve Camilleri, currently engaged with the Italian top division team RN Bogliasco, has again netted five goals, his fourth nap-hand this season.

His latest bonanza came when his team visited IGM Ortigia of Catania on Saturday and drew 7-7 to maintain their mid-table position with four rounds of matches in the league programme left.

Among the crowd watching the match were Malta national coach Karl Izzo and his assistant Anthony Farrugia who made the trip to Sicily during which he found time to meet the 26-year-old ahead of Malta’s partication in a FINA qualifying tournament in Denmark in April.

Camilleri has now reached 37 goals from 18 matches, a total which consolidates his position as his team’s leading marksman. In so doing he gained places in the topmost rankings of the overall scorers in Italy.

In Malta, the Neptunes’ goal-hitter again ended as top-scorer last year, having also won the Player of the Year award after landing this honour in 2007 and 2011.
