Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has been fined by Cameroon’s football federation for showing an “attitude of contempt” towards international captain Samuel Eto’o.

The Federation Camerounaise de Football announced on their website, www.fecafootonline.com, yes-terday that the 23-year-old had been fined £1,355, severely reprimanded and ordered to carry out three days’ training with young players after he refused to shake Eto’o’s hand before the Indomitable Lions’ African Nations Cup qualifier against Senegal on June 4.

Song has not played for his country since falling out with Eto’o during last summer’s World Cup. The Senegal match, which he ended up missing through injury, had marked his return to the squad.

Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto was also warned having failed to turn up for training sessions after being called up by coach Javier Clemente. He cited medical problems but had been deemed fit.

Inter striker Eto’o was accused of missing a training session and showing a lack of discipline towards Clemente for disputing a substitution during the Senegal game, but he was cleared.
