The installation of speed cameras in selected places in Malta has brought about an appreciable reduction of speed on the roads involved, Transport Minister Austin Gatt said in Parliament on Monday in reply to two questions by Opposition MP Anthony Agius Decelis.

Dr Gatt said the results of a Transport Malta study had been published in the document Speed Management on Maltese Roads – Policy and Technical Guidance Manual.

Each camera records the speed of vehicles passing by at up to 15kph over the limit and more than 15kph over.

Between January and October this year, the cameras recorded a total of 19,896 speed infringements.
