The Malta Philharmonic Orch-estra has recorded a number of CDs which are to be released internationally.
The CDs will be produced and distributed by Cameo Classics, a classical music label based in France, which has achieved critical acclaim for its recordings of unusual repertoire.
The label has just launched its ‘English Composers Premiere Collection’ – a series dedicated to works by neglected English composers.
Forthcoming releases will feature the MPO and several soloists from within its ranks, conducted by music director Michael Laus and young composer-conductor Christopher Muscat.
Projected CDs will include such intriguing rarities as the Thalassa Symphony by Arthur Somervell, the Harpsichord Concerto by Cyril Scott, works for horn and strings by Maurice Blower and Pierrot and Pierrette, a ballet suite by Josef Holbrooke.
The MPO will also be accompanying world-renowned pianist Angela Brownridge in concertos by Ruth Gipps and Kenneth Leighton.
The MPO has also been asked to record Romantic works by Ignaz Brull, Salomon Jadassohn and Ferdinand Thieriot.
Recordings are already under-way, with the first releases expected in the next months. The CDs will eventually be available from the website of the label (www.cameo-classics.com) and orchestra (www.maltaorchestra.com).
