Ryan Camenzuli will make his first appearance for Malta U-21 this evening when Ray Farrugia’s boys take on Liechtenstein in a friendly at the Hibs Stadium (kick-off 8 p.m.).

The 17-year-old has been a revelation for Birkirkara since he made his first appearance in the Premier League last season and his positive performances immediately caught the eye of coach Ray Farrugia.

“Camenzuli is a player to look at for the future. He works hard in training and this will be an ideal opportunity for him to continue with his development,” Farrugia said.

The meeting will be a final rehearsal before Malta U-21’s concluding Euro Championship qualifier away at Ukraine on September 6. Farrugia is again rooting for a sound performance and a morale-boosting result.

“Winning matches like this is very healthy in terms of confidence,” Farrugia told The Times yesterday.

Some of the players in the U-21 squad are nearing their exit due to age limit.

“Those no longer eligible for the U-21 after the Ukraine match have to show they deserve to make the grade,” Farrugia said.

While Malta U-21 have managed five points from their qualifying group, Liechtenstein endured a difficult campaign and lost all six they played in Group Two which also features Italy, Turkey, Ireland and Hungary.

Line-up: S. Sultana, L. Martinelli, Z. Muscat, Y. Camilleri, M. Gauci, R. Muscat, M. Scerri, B. Kristensen, R. Scicluna, T. Vella, R. Camenzuli.
