The next artists to participate in Spazju Kreattiv’s artist-in-residency programme are Portugese Henrique Fernandes and Samuel Coelho.
They are both into different areas of experimental music, such as sound art, field recordings or the use and creation of non-conventional musical instruments and sound objects. During their residency they aim to create a sound installation and performance with a compositional base that rests entirely on the sound identity of Gozo, which is where the programme is based.
To this end, they are opening up their experience to incorporate a minimal number of participants who will live with them for a day or two.
This fits in with their priority to incorporate into their creative process specific materials, such as glass blowing or salt extraction, in direct collaboration with local artisans, discovering their experience and knowledge.
The work they produce will contain a documentary base (field recordings) and the consequent artistic reflections and transformations (installation and performance) will be available in the sound archive phonambient (www.phonambient.com).
■ The residency runs from February 26 to March 7 in Għarb. Those wishing to participate should contact the organisers by emailing spazju@kreattivita.org by noon tomorrow. The residency experience in Gozo is free and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, visit http://kreattivita.org .
