Creativity will take centre stage today at a cake-decorating competition in aid of Inspire, organised in collaboration with the Baden Powell Scouts, at the Magazino Hall, Valletta Waterfront.

An Easter theme was chosen and cake decorators are invited to challenge each other in a contest of imagination, creativity, artistry and skill, enabling them to show off their talents.

Participation is welcome from different levels of experience, submission being accepted in either a beginner’s or advanced category. In addition to cakes, figolli decorating and tasting will also be judged by a panel of qualified people.

The event provides an excellent opportunity for cake makers to show off their talents while supporting a good cause, said Maria Vella-Galea, fundraising and marketing manager at Inspire.

“Inspire is grateful towards such initiatives, as they help us raise funds that go towards the running of our programmes for people with disability, enabling them to reach their full potential, focusing on their ability rather than disability.”

Submissions, consisting of edible cakes and figolli, are to be entered today at 3pm. Throughout the judging process, competitors and visitors can also participate in a number of demonstrations between 3.30 and 3.55pm (Anna Calleja, marzipan fruits); from 4 to 4.25pm (Andrew Farrugia, pastry) and 4.30 to 4.55pm (Tony Borg Bonaci, piping work).

Non-participating visitors are welcome to watch the demonstrations while enjoying a hot drink and a slice of cake.

Entrance is free. However, a paper donation, which will go towards Inspire, will be greatly appreciated.

More information about the competition can be obtained by contacting Sarah Pace by e-mail at events@inspire.org.mt or on 2092 8105.

The event’s sponsors – The Kitchen Store, Calfam Services Ltd, Good Earth and Ooii.com.mt – will provide trophies and vouchers to be won.
