Cagliari are looking for a new home after cancelling their contract at the Stadio Is Arenas in Quartu Sant’Elena.

The club sent a letter to the authorities in the town yesterday morning informing them of the decision to leave their home, which has been dogged by safety problems since opening at the start of the current season.

The stadium could now be dismantled and re-built in another area.

The Rossoblu have been forced to play some games behind closed doors this season after local officials deemed the stadium unsafe, and this morning’s announcement is just the latest development in an ongoing saga for the Sicilian club.

They moved out of their former Stadio Sant’Elia home in March last year, playing the remaining home games of the 2011/12 season at Trieste’s Stadio Nereo Rocco, nearly 700 miles away from the Sardinian capital.

On February 14, club president Massimiliano Cellino was among three men arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the construction of the stadium, with reports in Italy suggesting the Guardia Forestale were investigating alleged attempted embezzlement and fraudulent misrepresentation surrounding the unfinished stadium.
