Mellieħa’s Imperial Band Club is set to write an important page in its history when it hosts the Cabinet’s weekly meeting at its premises this morning.

A government spokesman yesterday told Times of Malta that the decision to move away from Auberge de Castille was taken due to Labour’s pledge to hold important meetings in the community to be closer to the people.

He said other venues in Mellieħa including the La Vittoria Band Club and the parish hall were also considered, but finally it was felt the Imperial Band Club hall was best as it was the most spacious.

The spokesman said security also had to be considered and the hall was preferred as it had a secondary exit.

All the local councillors of the northern region have been invited to sit in on the meeting, which the media will be allowed to cover for the opening few minutes.

This will be the second occasion that the Cabinet members will not meet in the Office of the Prime Minister in Valletta. Last July it met at the Marsaxlokk parish hall.
