The Union of Cabin Crew yesterday said it would join the pilots’ planned protest on July 15 in connection with the contentious Air Malta restructuring plan.

In a statement, the UCC said much time had been wasted on a number of issues related to cost cutting.

The cabin crew said that in the past it had raised the issue of the airport’s “high” charges, as well as cargo and revenue problems.

“The UCC agrees with a proper restructuring exercise but would also like to see cost savings happen immediately,” it said, adding that suggestions made last summer which could have saved tens of thousands of euros were ignored.

Cabin crew was reduced by over 30 per cent and a wage freeze had been in place in recent years, it said, yet commercial contracts which made no sense were signed.
